Pegasus Spyware
Spyware & Zero-Click
🔻 What is Pegasus?
Pegasus is a most advanced hacking software (spyware) developed by the Israeli cyber-intelligence company NSO Group. It’s designed to secretly infiltrate smartphones & PCs and extract sensitive information without the user’s knowledge. It is often called a “cyber weapon” because of its sophistication and the level of surveillance it enables.
🔻 How Does Pegasus Work?
Once inside, Pegasus gains root or kernel-level access, which gives it full control of the device. Pegasus can infect a device through multiple methods:
Zero-Click Exploits
- No user interaction needed.
- Can occur via a missed call or silent message.
Malicious Links
- Payload delivered through SMS, WhatsApp, or email.
App Vulnerabilities
- Exploits flaws in applications such as WhatsApp or iMessage.
🔻 What Can Pegasus Do?
Basically, the target’s phone becomes a 24/7 surveillance tool. After infection, Pegasus can:
- Read messages (even encrypted ones like WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and installed apps).
- Access emails, call logs, contacts, and browsing history.
- Record phone calls.
- Activate the microphone and camera silently.
- Track GPS location in real-time.
- Extract files, photos, and passwords.
🔻 Why is Pegasus Dangerous?
Stealth
Victims rarely know they’re infected.
Power
It bypasses even encrypted applications.
Persistence
It can survive reboots and system updates.
🔻 Detection & Protection
Pegasus is extremely hard to detect, but we have tools to check for traces (e.g., Mobile Verification Toolkit – MVT). Precautions:
- Keep OS and apps updated.
- Avoid suspicious links or files.
- Use secure, updated devices (though even iPhones have been hacked).
- For high-risk individuals, physical device replacement may be the only solution.
